The World Meteorological Organization says levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases reached record highs in 2019.

The WMO analyzed last year's data on three major gases observed by meteorological agencies and research institutes in various countries.

It said the globally-averaged concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere reached 410.5 parts per million.

It also said concentrations of methane and nitrous oxide stood at 1,877 and 332 parts per billion respectively.

All three gases rose to their highest levels since worldwide record-keeping began in 1984.

Japan Meteorological Agency officials involved in the analysis said the world is facing a higher risk of disasters due to global warming, and the frequency of heavy rains is increasing. They added that measures against global warming must be continued.
